New Kosova Report
EU
The European Union will promptly recognize Kosovo's independence in case Pristina makes a unilateral declaration, German diplomat Wolfgang Ischinger said, citing an interview Ischinger gave Radio Berlin Brandenberg. Ischinger represented the EU in the group of international mediators -- the EU, Russia and the United States -- at talks between Serbia and Kosovar Albanians on the province's future. Ischinger said the EU will reach an agreement on the problem within a few days, and a few preconditions -- including the adoption of an already-drafted constitution and observance of the law guaranteeing national minorities' rights -- must be met before the EU recognizes Kosovo's independence.

Kosovo will be fast-tracked into the EU, this will serve as a motivator for Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia. It will be the first state supervised and prepared by the EU for accession, it will be a success because the EU is driven by economic and market needs, not ideology.
