Thaçi travels to the UN, unclear whether he will speak or not PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 January 2008
ImageKosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi travelled on Monday evening to New York, where he is expected to participate in the Security Council (SC) session on Kosovo. It is still however unclear if he will be allowed to address the Council, reports Kosovo daily Koha Ditore. Sources within the PDK noted that “he (Thaçi) received international promises” that he will be allowed to address the members of the Security Council.

But the office of the UN Secretary-General could not confirm this.

A diplomat from the Secretary-General’s office reportedly said that a meeting to discuss the format of the SC session on Kosovo was discussed on Monday afternoon, but a consensus was not achieved.

Daily Zëri on the other hand reports that according to Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi in a statement given to the Albanian TV Alsat, Thaçi will participate in the SC session on Wednesday, and will address the SC members, since the Libyan ambassador has approved his request. Libya is the current chair of the SC.
