European officials involved in the status issue told Koha Ditore that the independence date is expected to be agreed between Brussels and Pristina during Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi’s visit to Brussels next week. During Thaçi’s visit to the European Union headquarters on January 23-24, he is expected to meet EU diplomacy chief Javier Solana, Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn and some high-ranking NATO officials.

The date was also discussed at UN Headquarters during Thaçi’s stay there and during the talks that were held between US Envoy Frank Wisner and some EU ambassadors of member states of the Security Council.

“There is a good chance that Thaçi will be expected to agree on the date in Brussels, which will be much closer to March than February. It seems that the connection with elections in Spain is gaining more argument, even though it was only an idea initially. But let’s see what will happen in Brussels” Koha Ditore quotes international sources as saying.
