Statements by Thaçi on UN Security Council meeting

Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi

Prishtina - Following are the comments issued by Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci on Wednesday evening disputing the UN Security Council's jurisdiction on the Kosovo issue: "Kosovo has its common agenda, which was designed together with the international authorities, and we are expecting strong support for it. The issue of Kosovo is now outside the building of the United Nations Security Council. As far as the status is concerned, everything is ready...the people of Kosovo know the date of the declaration of the independence, and the decision will be made very soon."

Thaci called on citizens of all ethnicities to "not panic and be worried, but to celebrate" on the day when the declaration of the independence will occur, assuring them that "everything will go well."

He said that all the preparations have been made, including "the Flag is ready, the constitution is ready...everything is ready for the independence."

Statement by the Head of the UN Mission in Kosovo, Joachim Ruecker:

"We are synchronizing the plans, the security plans. We are prepared for any eventuality, and we don't expect any difficulty. We believe that Kosovo's people are mature and interested in peace and stability."
