The parliament of newly independent Kosovo adopted its first pieces of legislation Tuesday that included measures to establish a foreign ministry as well as citizenship and passports.
The legislation - 10 separate pieces bundled as one for expediency's sake - were approved by a vote of 84 in favor, two against and two abstentions during a hour-long sitting of the elected chamber.

Besides creating a foreign ministry, Kosovo citizenship and passports, the legislation covers diplomatic immunity and privileges, symbols of state, protection of heritage sites, policing and municipal affairs.

I like the fact that Kosovar authorities are going about business as usual. I don't think it does us much good to continue discussing independence. Of course, there should be a lot of behind the scene lobbying of countries to recognize Kosovo, but that isn't the job of everyone. MPs should pass laws and the government should go on with its own program. The faster we go about creating a normal state the stronger our new country's foundation will be. Long live the Republic of Kosova.

There should be. But bear in mind the army consists only of 2500 people with little training.

Nice to see such quick action on this by the Kosova Government. Now there needs tio be the deployment of Kosovo military forces in the north to safeguard the territorial integrity of the new republic. Belgrade has to know that Kosova is here to stay. They had it, they abused it, they lost it. End of Story.
