 Latvia recognizes Kosovo
Latvia recognizes Kosovo
Respecting the declaration adopted by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo on 17 February, the Republic of Latvia recognises the independence of the Republic of Kosovo.

Latvia holds in high estimation the principles included in the declaration of the Assembly, which are crucial for a democratic society. Principles such as stability, economic growth, security, human rights, protection of minorities, and the inviolability of religious and cultural heritage are the basic elements on which the future of Kosovo should be built.

Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins highlights that the plan and the recommendations developed by UN Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari should serve as a comprehensive framework for the future growth of Kosovo.

Latvia emphasises that the case of Kosovo is unique, and it cannot be considered as a precedent for solving other frozen conflicts in the world.
