![]() Movement for Self-Determination! Is the north of Kosovo occupied? After Kosovo’s declaration of independence, the reaction of Serbia has taken many forms. On the one hand, they have burnt the customs houses on two border points between Kosovo and Serbia in the northern part of Kosovo. These attacks had as their goal an attack on the future character of these customs points and in general the future character of Kosovo’s borders – which should be international borders rather than administratve borders. What will happen with the customs points in the North? Will they become international border points? Here will be seen and tested the independence of Kosovo. Hashim Thaçi has called these ‘isolated incidents’ and without any significance. On the other hand, the burning of the embassies in Belgrade, was harshly criticized by all political factors and institutions in Kosovo.
The question prohibited most strictly in Kosovo is that which is most important: what is the united interest of all citizens in Kosovo and what should be the priority of politicians in Kosovo? it is prohibited because of its answer – the united interest is territorial integrity and this is what should be the priority of politicians in Kosovo today. They tell us that everything that is happening is the price that must be paid for the declaration and recognition of independence. Such were called the concessions made to Serbia in Vienna – the price for independence. As was the continuation of governance by an international mission, the division of Kosovo and usurping of our culture and heritage, the de-nationalization of Albanians in Kosovo, the double majority (a practical veto) for minority deputies, the prohibition of the right to self-defence – all these have become the price for independence. When the truth is precisely the opposite: exactly the refusal of this would have been independence. It is these attributes which would guarantee Kosovo as a state – these would form a united Kosovo, with territorial integrity, with united and sovereign institutions and self-government with the monopoly on the use of force and its instruments. Is it possible that the price of independence can be the surrender of these and of the state? Even the question is absurd. Throughout the rebellion of the parallel structures of Serbia against the independence of Kosovo, the debate about what Serbia can do has been violently silenced and suppressed. This suppression was not done because of the unpredictability of where opening such a theme might lead to (as it is possible to think) but precisely because the conclusion of this debate is predictable – it would end up in the need of Kosovo to have its own army and to freely develop the capacity of self-defense. The KPS until now have complained (and will continue to complain) about their lack of competences, when it is clear that the problem which confronts Kosovo is not only security but above all defence and an army. They sent the police to defend the border from attacks by Serb army reservists in the village of Mutivodë! What did they intend to tell us, that this attack was an internal issue! Did they come from another state or not? So, this attack should have been dealt with by the army, because it is the army that defends the borders, not the police. In Mitrovica prison, an Albanian prisoner was beaten severely after Albanian prison guards were removed from the north. No media in Kosovo reported this. “International and local analysts have come up with five strategies that Serbia will use: • Incite Serbs of Kosovo to not accept independence and thus deepen the division of Kosovo • Start an economic embargo of Kosovo • Incite the Serb Republic in Bosnia to declare secession from Bosnia and Hercegovina • Create a political crisis in Serbia in order to prove the negative influence of Kosovo’s independence on politics in the region • Start a campaign of ethnic cleansing of Albanians in the Valley of Presheva as revenge for the declaration of independence.” “Although now Serbia has excluded the use of military aggression, she looks like she will use all of these at particular moments. Perhaps even more. As it touches Serbia’s plans inside the territory of Kosovo, she is using different tactics in different areas. They protested in Merdare and in Mutivodë (the North), but not at Dheu i Bardhë (Anamorava). In those areas of Kosovo where Serb villages lie near the border, Serbia did not organize protests because those areas it considers already under control through parallel structures - which will be legalized and raised to municipal structures through the Ahtisaari Plan. In the North, they have not touched Albanians who live there, because Serbia is conscious that this would put at risk the enclaves spread throughout Kosovo and concentrated in the east of Kosovo. She wants to keep these as well. And the Ahtisaari Plan will give them to her.” This independence, not based on a referendum for self-determination, is proving to be so empty of substance that it is moving us further from our goal of sovereignty and democracy. “The Albanian police have been told for their own safety to not patrol roads in the north of the town of Mitrovica. Serb protestors have obliged the KPS thus to uphold the division of Mitrovica through the cordons they place there ever day. In every appearance of the spokesman of the police of Mitrovica, since the protests, he has spoken to the TV cameras with his back turned to the northern part of the town. Meanwhile, neither Albanian judges nor prosecutors were allowed to go over the bridge. With the parallel structures of Serbia in Kosovo they want to create a factual situation on the ground, to internally divide Kosovo so that when all this euphoria over the declaration and recognition of independence passes, we find ourselves before a completed act.” Two life threatening issues for us: 1. Which matters more, Resolution 1244 or international recognition of our independence? 2. Who runs Kosovo now: UNMIK, or the EU or Serbia? Note: we didn’t include our own institutions . . . .
The symbolic arrival of protesting Serbs from the North only until the bridge over the River Ibër speaks loudly for Serbia’s objective. Serbia does not consider that bridge as a place where citizens of Kosovo can pass freely, but as a spot where something finishes – where Serbia ends and Kosovo begins. A question for Kosovo’s institutions and the international presence: “What will happen with the countries that don’t recognize us, will we recognize them? Will their citizens have the right to take part in missions in Kosovo? The case of the Romanian police and their refusal to go to defend law and order in the north of Kosovo when the border crossing was burned, shows clearly that countries which do not recognize Kosovo will continue to work according to Resolution 1244, something that automatically transforms their work into a defense of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia over Kosovo.”

... I agree about the comment - Kosovo is occupied, but the south part, not north. @ILLAZ "As far as the South is concerned, we are extending our friendly hand to the Albanians living in the South. But they must realise they live in the Serbia, and thay must obey Serbian Government. If they don't want to do that, they are free to leave for their motherland, Albania." I think that this suits much more to the facts don't you think? At the moment you're safe because Serbia has a quisling government, but this will change eventually, and then things will change. Peacefully or not, this depends on Albanian peole living in Kosovo if they will accept the fact that they live on the occupied teritorry of Serbia or not. |

... Me being s spaniard and having our own issues with the Basque region. Giving the Albanians Kosovo or Kosova will open the floodgates around the world. First it will allow islam to take over Europe the same ways the Albanians have taken over Kosova by a higher birth-rate. In the next 100 years, here in the UK, France, as well as in Germany they Muslims will be the majority and will have to deal with the problem later in the next 50 years. by allowing independence, other higher populated ethnic groups will want independence as well Such as: Albanian independence in Montenegro, Macedonia, and in Greece. Inaddition: The hispanic population in the USA which are the majority in Florida, Texas, and in the Southwest USA. Other break-away regions will follow afterwards such as: the french speaking wanting independence from Canada, Muslims wanting to seperate from Russia in the region of Chechnya. If this Independence of Kosova does happen and an integration of a Greater albania does go through This will cause a falling domino effect globally that will be blamed on the arab muslims and western powers. Creating a greater Albania will create a great liability in fixing errors from the past In such then we should return most of the USA back to Mexico, the Falkland Islands back to Argentina, and all you Arabs and Arabstates should go back under the rule of the Turks which was the orifiginal the Ottoman Empire since they are the original rulers in the middle east. Best Regards from a historian and a political analyst from Barcelona. |

... I wouldn't say that North is occupied. I would rather say the whole Kosova is occupied. But, we must be patiant. We will get our full independence the day UNMIK and KFOR leave our territory. As far as the North is concerned, we are extending our friendly hand to the Serbs living in the North. But they must realise they live in the Republic of Kosova, and thay must obay central Kosova Government. If they don't want to do that, they are free to leave for their motherland, Serbia. |

... stop fighting about the name. who cares if it is with an A or an O in the end. The Most important part is that Kosova/o is independent now. The Official name will probably be Republic Of Kosova but im ok with people calling it Kosovo. |

... Is North Kosovo occupied?? NO !! Because Kosovo is Serbia. Kosovo was, is and it will be for EVER. Serbian province Kosovo is occupied, but no for long time. America and NATO will go, then all Albanians from Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Greek will back home in their motherland Albania. |

... I have to say that the correct spelling is KOSOVA and not KOSOVO....now we have a new state of Kosova, called the Republic of Kosova, the name Kosovo is used by Serbs because they still consider Kosova as their own...Sorry...Wake up Serbia!!! |
|
|
... there is a spelling error in your domain name: the correct spelling is "Kosovo". you're welcome. |

... This Albin Kurti is nothing but serbian spy that has been "relaeased from the serbian prison by abolition signed from Serb anti western Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica" . Albin Kurti is let free to come in Kosovo to cause caos and mass rebelion There is much to be written here but one should have in mind that "Vetvendosje" is Tryan Horse within Kosovo estabilished by Serbian state army and police Security Agencies. "Vetvendosje" didn't even celebrate the independence of Kosova on 17 of february They should immediately be banned due to propaganda that are conducting that is against Kosovo and its citizens |
