Kosovo Serbs clash with KFOR soldiers
The fallen Ukrainian police officers in clashes with Serb rioters in Mitrovica has been identifies as Ihor Kynal, 1982. Kynal arrived in Kosovo to serve as member of the Ukrainian UNMIK riot police unit on 14 December, 2007. The information has been confirmed by the Interior Ministry of Ukraine and by the spokesperson of the Kosovo Police Service, Veton Elshani.

According to the latest information, in yesterday’s violent protests in north Mitrovica were wounded 20 Ukrainian and 22 Polish international police members. Among the KFOR troops, there are 22 wounded soldiers, 12 of which have been sent further treatment in France. Today the situation in Mitrovica is calm but tense.

Kynal is the first member of the peacekeeping international security forces to die in Kosovo since 1999. In 2002 15 Polish riot police officers were wounded from a grenade thrown in their midst in similar clashes with Serbs in Mitrovica.

I'm still puzzled how "unarmed" protesters managed to cause such carnage. Did the Ukrainian soldier fall over?

Please understand the FACTS before posting stupid uninformed comments.

FACT1 - KFOR troops clearly used force and fired live rounds as well as rubber bullets. 70 Serbs were injured of which 15 were treated for BULLET wounds! This was a severe response, with excessive use of force, by the members of UNMIK against unarmed civilians!

FACT2 - The fundamental goal of the UN mission is to prevent any violence in Kosovo, not to perpetrate acts of violence and intimidation against unarmed Serbian civilians!

FACT3 - The Ukrainian government strongly condemned the actions taken by the UNMIK police and KFOR against the unarmed Serbian civilians. (It was a Ukrainian soldier that died)

FACT4 - The UNMIK police and KFOR deliberately chose March 17, 2004 to forcibly remove UNARMED Serbian protesters. This date was an anniversary, when Albanian mobs - some 50,000 according to UN figures - attacked Serbs throughout Kosovo. Some 4,000 Serbs were expelled from their homes during the violence, in which six cities and nine villages were ethnically cleansed by Kosovo Albanian terrorist!

Bekimmika you forget though that Kosovo is a part of Serbia, and the leaders are nothing more than criminal Jihadist terrorist thugs. KFOR and others are on the wrong side in this one, they need to further protect the Serbs there.

It's a big lost. Brave man serving in peacekeeping mission killed by ''unarmed people'', while armed soldiers didn't defend themselves, 'cause they didn't have permission to do that! It's another example how useless UN is, too much compromise-makes a paralyse. Kosovo is not a jungle, it's independent state now and it should act as a state on entire territory. No one can be above the law, no one can kill a policeman without taking consequence of that act. no neighboring state can interfere in internal matters of Kosovo without paying consequencess. I think that international community took their lessons: Law should be applied for all citizens of Kosovo same, no more double standards no more toleration for those who thinks that they are above the law.
