United Nations Police and Kosovo Police Service officers have returned today to Mitrovica, announced KPS spokesperson, Veton Elshani. Elshani stated that international and local police will continue their work in the northern part of the town, while KFOR peacekeepers are expected to withdraw gradually by Friday.

"Members of KPS along with UNMIK Police will deal with the situation there and if it gets to where KPS and UNMIK police cannot control the situation, then KFOR will intervene in the shortest time until the police are able to go back to protecting public order," stated Elshani. UNMIK and KPS withdrew from the northern police station in Mitrovica on Monday after coming under grenade and gun fire.
