Sunday evening, hours before UNMIK police entered the courthouse in northern Mitrovica, Larry Rossin informed the Serbian Minister Slobodan Samardzic of UNMIK’s decision to act, reports Koha Ditore, citing the Belgrade daily Blic.

In its Wednesday edition, Blic reported details about the developments on Monday in Mitrovica. According to Blic, in the meeting between Rossin and Samaradzic on Sunday evening, Samardzic emphasized that the employees that seized the courthouse would leave themselves, but Rossin did not believe him. Albanian media have reported that Belgrade was seeking to establish joint rule in northern Kosovo along with UNMIK, but excluding EU's new mission.

Blic also quoted UNMIK spokesperson Alexander Ivanko as saying that Minister Samardzic was told that UNMIK would take action to take control of the courthouse and “this is for sure”.

The chief of the Forum for Interethnic Relations in Belgrade, Dusan Janjic, stated that if Samardzic knew earlier that UNMIK would react and still allowed it to happen, then “this was done because someone in Belgrade wanted it this way”. Janjic thinks that “someone from Belgrade also initiated the entrance of the train in Kosovo, the burning of the border crossing points, as well as the seizing the courthouse.
