Albania and Croatia have today at the Bucharest Summit been officially invited to become NATO's newest member countries.

During a speech today, Albania's President and PM, Bamir Topi and Sali Berisha, expressed the deepest gratefulness of the Albanian people, promising a continuation of their committment to internal reforms and readiness for contribution and loyalty to NATO.

Prime Minister Berisha, reaffirming the Albanian peoples' absolute support for NATO, called today's occasion in Bucharest a miracle of freedom, while remembering both Albania's and Romania's dictatorial histories.

NATO's invitation to Albania and Croatia has been greeted by the President of the United States of America, George Bush. "I am happy that the alliance has agreed to invite Albania and Croatia to become NATO members. Both countries have demonstrated abilities and willingness to strongly contribute to NATO. They have undergone political and economic changes, as well as defence reforms. They have also deployed their troops during NATO's missions", President Bush has declared.

At the same time, Bush has expressed his sympathy regarding NATO's leaders' lack of consensus to invite Macedonia to join the alliance.
