No to recognition, yes to partnership with Kosovo
No to recognition, yes to partnership with Kosovo
Dailies report on the meeting of Slovakia’s Foreign Minister Jan Kubis with the Kosovo authorities, at which he brought the offer to support KFOR and EULEX.

“The stance of our country remains unchanged. Kosovo’s final status resolution didn’t come from the UNSC as Slovakia had engaged for. But this doesn’t affect us in reflecting new realities, and therefore I am here to confirm our partnership, and to let you know that we are aiming to assist Kosovo in the field of the economy, as well as other aspects”, dailies quoted Kubis as saying.

On the other hand, Kosovo’s President Fatmir Sejdiu, after the meeting with Kubis, said that he had asked for Slovakia to make a decision to recognize Kosovo faster, by understanding the practical will of the citizens of Kosovo, dailies read.

This is ironic. One the one hand, you have a government that says they will not recognize Kosovo, but on the other wants diplomatic relations, and to help develop its economy, etc.

See, if Slovakia didn't recognize Kosovo as independent, it will still be talking to Belgrade, and not Pristina. Perhaps they just don't want to offend Belgrade.
