How will the international presence look in Kosovo according to Ban Ki-moon? PDF Print E-mail

Even though UNMIK’s reconfiguration and the future international civilian presence in Kosovo are is still being worked out and will be addressed by Ban Ki-moon next week, western diplomatic sources have told Zëri that it is now known more or less how the international presence in Kosovo will be composed, who will respond to whom, and how long UNMIK’s reconfiguration will last.

Under the optimistic scenarios, after June 15 the situation will become clear or everything should return to the model proposed by Martti Ahtisaari. It is expected that there will be a UN political office which would report to the Secretary-General about developments in Kosovo, because formally resolution 1244 could remain in force, reports Zëri. But the organization of the international presence in Kosovo could be totally different if in the coming days no fundamental changes are made to the concept which UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is expected to present.
