The UBT team

The world’s newest country has been represented by a team from the University of Business and Technology (UBT) in Prishtina throughout the tournament, which began on the 15th of June and ended on June 22nd with Linz, Austria as the final venue.

Edmond Hajrizi, the President of UBT and Artan Dermaku, the Coordinator of UBT’s Department of Computer Science, took part in the opening of the European Robot-Soccer Championship in Oerlikon University in Zurich, Switzerland. The Kosovar team included four other players from UBT who joined Edmond and Artan in Linz, Austria.

The game of Robot-Soccer is played in several different categories, which are divided based on the size and power of the robots, as well as on the type of terrain. More specically, the matches are played either as 3 on 3, 5 on 5, 9 on 9, 11 on 11, and are divided into six different categories: MiroSot Extended Middle, humanoid Robot – HuroCup, MiroSot Middle League, Narosot League, MiroSot Larrge, and MiroSot XL Middle League. Each game includes two matches with 5 minutes each. The robots are controlled by the referees, while the teams simply start the game and watch their team’s success. The game includes fouls, free “kicks”, and most importantly trying to score goals, which of course is the object of soccer whether it be played by humans or in this case, robots.

Kosova played against Slovenia, Germany, Austria and Russia during the tournament. The greatest success came when Kosova defeated Russia 10 to 1. Kosova was one of the 8 teams which made it to the semi-finals, and the team placed fourth. FIRA also will go on to feature a World Championship in China this year which is known as the championship of artificial intelligence.
