Great Britain has set a major milestone in its economic relations with Kosovo with the opening of the British Chamber of Commerce in Prishtina yesterday.
"The inauguration of the British Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo will
positively influence other possibilities of the economic development
process, while promoting Kosovo as a safe country with an attractive
business environment for foreign investment," said the Prime Minister
of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, during the opening ceremony of
this important economic association in Prishtina.
Kosovo Prime Minister added that "Kosovo, as a new country in the Balkans needs continues support, not only in a political level but also in economic form, and Great Britain is one of the European nations that have continuously supported Kosovo. The opening of the British Chamber of Commerce marks an important beginning of another economic development stage with positive direction in promotion of Kosovo in the investment world."
"British Chamber of Commerce intends to establish economic and trade relations between the business communities of Great Britain and Kosovo. At the same time, this chamber will promote Great Britain as a valuable partner in the economic development of the Republic of Kosovo," said the Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce, Ray Power.
"By establishing this chamber, we clearly emphasize that Kosovo is a valuable and attractive destination for the interests of the British business community. The mission of the chamber is to actively promote a solid economic partnership between Great Britain and the Republic of Kosovo, regarding investments and long term trade relations between the two nations," said Power.
Power invited the business communities of both nations to join the British Chamber of Commerce, stressing the association's importance and the good potential for further economic growth.
The British Ambassador to Kosovo, Andrew Sparks, added that "Kosovo needs economic partners, while his country is among the most important partners that will intensively participate in aiding the economic development of Kosovo, particularly in the issue of employment and economic growth."
He stressed the role that Great Britain will play at the Donors’ Conference that will take place on Friday in Brussels, Belgium.
The British Chamber of Commerce has already begun its cooperation in the field of education with the privately run Royal Illyria University in Prishtina.
