Kosovo to play Brazil? PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 17 July 2008
ImageThe spokesperson of Football Federation of Kosova (FFK), Fazli Berisha, has confirmed the offer to organize a football match between Republic of Kosovo and Brazil.

According to FFK's spokesperson, "Football Federation of Brazil and Football Federation of Kosovo have agreed to play a friendly football match on July 25 or July 26. Switzerland, as a host of this football match, has agreed to. However we are waiting the approval from FIFA, because we are still in the process of becoming members of FIFA."

Also, the spokesperson of Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Rodrigo Paiva, confirms the plausibility of this Kosovo-Brazil friendly football match. "Brazil is discussing the issue with FIFA, and it is realistic that it will happen," asserts Paiva.

The selector of the Kosova Football Representation, Edmond Rugova, expressed his enthusiasm about the possibility of this match, stressing that everyone is thrilled to see this dream come true. "Sincerely, it would be a privilege to be able to play in a friendly match with Brazil. We are ready to perform and have an excellent team,” added Rugova.

There are a lot of Kosovars who play in professional European football leagues and who will be playing in this match, with Lorik Cana of Marseilles as captain.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian team that might play against Kosovo would use the match as a preparation for the Olympic Games in August. The Brazilian representation coach, Carlso Dunga, has decided, besides other under 23 year old players, to include the football star of Barcelona, Ronaldinho as well as the Real Madrid star Robinho. Other players included in the team are Anderson, who plays for Manchester United, and Alexander Pato who plays for Milano.

In a recent football survey taken in one of Kosovo's football websites, the favorite national team by far was chosen Brazil. One of the great Brazilian football stars, Ronaldo has visited the Republic Kosovo, and sponsored the construction of a high school in the town of Gjakova.

The republic of Kosovo has another two scheduled football matches against an African and an Asian national representation.

The Kosovo vs. Benin football match is expected to take place on August 20 and Kosovo vs. Saudi Arabia football match will be on August 24. These two matches will be hosted in Switzerland as well.

It's so unfair that politics have to be involved in sports. After all it's a friendly game, you don't need approval from UN or anybody. Let the match happen and forget all politics. Seriously.
