Two important meetings for Kosovo are expected to take place today.
In the United States, Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu, Prime Minister
Hashim Thaçi and Foreign Minister Skënder Hyseni are due to meet with
the American Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and that of Defense
Robert Gates.
Whereas in Brussels will take place the meeting of representatives of the European Union, NATO, United Nations, and OSCE to discuss the modalities of cooperation of international factors in Kosovo, especially KFOR, reconfigured UNMIK, and EULEX. In attendance will be EU’s High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Javier Solana, NATO chief Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and around 30 ambassadors.
As announced, the meeting is expected to be informal and not bring any decisions.
Meanwhile the meeting in the United States with American Secretaries Rice and Gates, Kosovo’s leaders have considered important and historic. Before leaving for the United States, the three have stated that “diplomatic developments for Kosovo will take a new positive direction after the meetings in Washington.”
The visit to Washington will culminate on Monday when President Sejdiu and Prime Minister Thaçi meet in the White House with the US President George W. Bush.
