Hypo Group Alpe Adria based in Klagenfurt, Austria, is the latest bank to express interest in investing in Kosovo’s financial sector. The news was announced during a meeting that a delegation of this bank paid to the President of Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, Besim Beqaj.

“We’ll meet you again very soon at the promotional ceremony,” said Herald Edlinger, an official from this bank.

“The presence of such a bank for Kosovo has importance in the economic aspect, because we are dealing with a bank of European proportions,” said Beqaj. According to him, the presence of this bank has political ramifications in the sense that it creates a good image of Kosovo as a stable country for investing. “This group has serious plans to invest in Kosovo,” said Beqaj, after the discussions where the two parties also discussed plans for the creation of a more favorable environment for foreign investors.

Hypo Group Alpe Adria has branches in Switzerland, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, Hungary, London, Ukraine, Macedonia and Bulgaria. Bank’s assets at the end of last year were 37.9 billion euros. In Kosovo there is already another bank operating, Raiffeisen Bank, which is the second largest bank in Kosovo.
