UN travel documents being replaced in Kosovo PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 24 July 2008
ImageUnited Nations administration in Kosovo announced that it has stopped issuing travel documents for the citizens of Kosovo.

“After the decision of the Kosovo Interior Ministry, on 14 July, according to which it will begin to issue passports of the Republic of Kosovo to the citizens during this month, UNMIK considers that de facto it’s impossible to continue issuing travel documents by UNMIK,” a UN mission press release states.

This decision does not affect the validity of the documents currently in use. UNMIK travel documents were a workaround for the Kosovar citizens who repudiated applying for Serb government documents.

Despite being issued by the UN, these travel documents were not recognized by all UN members. The new passports will be accepted by the countries that have recognized the Republic of Kosovo and a few others that have officially not recognized yet.
