Kosovo president decrees new judges and prosecutors PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 29 July 2008
ImageFifteen judges and nine prosecutors have solemnly sworn before the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Fatmir Sejdiu.

The solemn oath of the judges and prosecutors of the Supreme, District and Municipal courts occurred last Friday in Prishtina after the review of their cases and having been decreed by the Kosovo President.

Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu emphasized that the judges and prosecutors will have the support of all Kosovo institutions to be able to genuinely show the judicial capacities of Kosovo before its citizens and the democratic world. “I have been thoroughly studying each of the resumes you have presented and I have decided to decree all of them, considering your judicial experience," said President Sejdiu, asking that the oath must become the implementation of the law.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Judicial Council of Kosovo, Rexhep Haxhimusa, said that with the decreeing of the judges and prosecutors by the president, the council has finalized a long and very important nomination process for the heads of the Kosovo judicial system.

"It is the first time in the history of independent Kosovo when the appointed judges and prosecutors have sworn the oath before the president and this is a significant judicial development for the Republic of Kosovo," said Haxhimusa.

He added that judges and prosecutors will have to be transparent before the law.

"The decreeing of these judges and prosecuters will certainly give a positive impulse to Kosovo judicial system by advancing into further judicial reforms which will resolve a number of judicial issues, and enable courts to function independently, reliably and give all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo a fair trial and verdict," concluded the Judicial Council chairman, Haxhimusa.
