Head of the Serb Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, Sonja Biserko, says that Serbia’s initiative to request a legal opinion on the “legality” of the declaration of independence by Kosovo is loss of time.

In an interview for BBC, Biserko said that Kosovo independence is recognized by the most important world countries and that Serbia cannot stop this process. “What Serbia is doing is an initiative not planned through and unattainable, because every state has the right to recognize whoever it wants, so there are no legal procedure that would prevent somebody to recognized another state, if it wants to do so,” said Biserko.

Serbia’s draft resolution will request the opinion of the International Court of Justice regarding the “legality” of the independence of Kosovo only if it can get the support of some 95 UN member countries.
