Begins work on the crucial Kosovo airport highway PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 21 August 2008
ImageKosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi and Minister of Transport Fatmir Limaj have broken ground today on the extension of the highway from Fushe Kosova outside Prishtina to the Prishtina Airport, currently the country's only commercial service airport.

The project is expected to last until the end of the year and cost 33 million euros. By 2010 the highway will reach city of Peja, in northwestern Kosovo.

Inspecting the work for the widening of the road from Fushe Kosova to the airport, and promising development and modernization, Prime Minister Thaçi said that this is the beginning of a series of major projects.

"This is the beginning of major projects, for which Kosovo citizens dreamt of in free Kosovo." Thaçi said that this project along with other road construction projects will be projects for the modernization of Kosovo, along with its road infrastructure.

Highways will be built connecting Prishtina to the city of Ferizaj and the border crossing with Macedonia and also the highway connecting with Mitrovica in the north, said Thaçi adding that the completion of these projects “will make every citizen living in Kosovo really proud to be living in the modern new Kosovo.”

"We are here practically doing an international connection of Kosovo and the International Airport Prishtina, which has an important role for the economic development, but also in offering a massive local and international communication link for those that want to visit Kosovo" said Minister Limaj.

The new road will have four lanes plus two helping roads on the sides and four overpasses and underpasses.
