President of the party League for Democratic Progress (LDP), Jonuz Musliu, has reacted strongly against discriminating acts of the Serb government towards the Presheva Valley Albanian in Southern Serbia.
According to him, decisions for non recognition of diplomas issued by
the University of Prishtina, removal of broadcasting license of RTV
Presheva and construction of a military base in Bujanoc, are serious
provocations towards the local Albanians there. RTV Presheva is the
only Albanian-language television station in Serbia.
He stressed that although in the last elections pro-European forces
came to power in Serbia, political and economic life in the region of
Presheva Valley continues to be delicate and fragile.
"Renewed militarization of the region by the construction of the
military base such as that in Bujanoc, then the attempts to squash the
media in Albanian language and the latest act not to recognize the
diplomas certified by the UN, not only are in contradiction with
international norms, but also with the Konçul Peace Agreement of 2001,”
said Musliu.
LDP requests from Belgrade “to give up pressures on Valley Albanians
and to remedy unfounded decisions of this sort, which cannot be
considered anything other than provocation, instability, and
insecurity.”
