French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has made it clear to Serbia that Europe will not support Serbia's initiative seeking an advisory, legally non-binding opinion from the International Justice Court regarding the Kosovo independence.
"We have reiterated numerous times that Serbia cannot pursue to join the
European Union while also seeking Europe to agree with the initiative,"
said French foreign minister who is also the president of the
Ministerial Council of European Union.
"Nevertheless, Serbia could seek any opinion, like all other countries," concluded Kouchner. At the meeting with the French ambassadors in Paris, Kouchner has emphasized that under any circumstances "the position of countries that support Kosovo independence will not change," as other European diplomats have reiterated in the past, calling Serbia's initiative as "futile" and "self-destructively isolationist." Kouchner doubts that the initiative will prevail at the UN General Assembly; nevertheless, he stressed that "International Court of Justice will take under account all elements, including today's reality."
Kouchner was the first to lead the UN Mission in Kosovo after the removal of Serb forces from Kosovo in 1999.
He reiterated that there were long years of dialogue between Serbs
and Albanians on Kosovo, however "there was an impossibility" and then
“the international community through its UN appointed envoy, Marti
Ahtisaari, took the responsibility to conduct another long round of
dialogue which resulted with Kosovo independence under European Union
supervision which we are currently implementing," concluded French
Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.
Also, former American envoy to the Balkans during Clinton Administration, Richard Holbrooke, who is also a close adviser to Barack Obama, candidate for the US President, said that "Serbia currently has two important obligative assignments to finish: one, arrest Mladic and two, reconcile with the fact that Kosovo today is its new neighbor. After these two assignments are accomplished, the Balkans has a bright future towards becoming part of the European family," said Holbrooke.

... holbrooke has been one of the prime motivators of the disaster that is Kosovo. The arrogance of such so called western diplomats is astonishing. Why they believe that they alone can determine the fate of those in places far detatched from their history, culture and society is perplexing. From the very beginning of this balkan tradegy it ahs been the foolish influence of these types of failed diplomats that has wreaked destruction and misery for thousands of people. Solana is amongst this bunch of fools that include Clinton and Blair. Ksosov will continue to fester, its leader a former terrorist aquitted in the kangaroo court that is the Hague. How can a criminal become a PM? How could the US or britain possibly allow this crminal to be found guilty when they have just enstated him as the PM of their new state....too embarrassing.....so he must be aquitted. THe west has collectively made many such mistakes historically...WW1 and the aftermath that led to WW2 the foremost. Lets hope that the stupidity that is Kosovo s recognition does not precipitate something as bad..Already ossetia and abkhazia has haunted this illegal recognition..... Sovereignty means nothing aymore....unilaterally declare a humanitarian disaster and you have reason ato do anything you want to a sovereign nation. NO..Kosovo is not an exception,,,there can be no exceptions for there to be an international order.....everyone likes to be an exception......rules are rules and to break them is to invite disaster,,,,Ksovo independance is one such disaster. |
