Kosovo Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) has announced that it recorded the most successful month in collecting property taxes since 2008. 

 

During the month of July, 1.8 million euro were collected. Compared to the same period a year ago, this is growth of 46%.

 

According to MEF, during 2008 was collected 44% of the amount billed, with five month to go until the end of the year. If the trend recorded during the last two months continues, total income will increase for 2008 to 13 million euro, which is 75-80% of the billable amount.

 

Minister of MEF Ahmet Shala stated that the property tax income allows Kosovo municipalities fiscal autonomy.
 
"The collection level in July shows the successful work of Kosovo municipalities in cooperation with their citizens. Property tax income is used to invest on capital projects in the municipal level such as road construction, school, hospital and park renovations and the improvement in general of the quality of life for the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo," stated Shala.
