During the first half of the year Kosovo police have recorded 27 murders and a decreasing trend compared to last years.

Despite the testing times Kosovo went through during the independence process, this number is three less than the 30 murders recorded during the same period last year. When considering an estimated population size of 2.2 million, Kosovo has a murder rate of 2.45 per 100,000 people and below that of the European Union which stood at 2.5 in 2004.

Nevertheless, this number is still higher than before the war and Kosovo police expressed their concern.

The latest murder was recorded on 31 August when a juvenile shepherd stabbed with a knife his friend in the Rahovec region in southwestern Kosovo, Kosovo police announced.
