Despite the fundamental political changes in Kosovo during the first half of 2008, the political and security situation has remained extremely stable, an Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe report published on Monday reads.

 

The report covers areas of human rights, interethnic relations and democracy from August 2007 until the first half of this year. Reminding of the developments in the north of Kosovo which followed the declaration of independence, the report states that "the fear that insecurity among the Serb community would lead to a wave of displacement from Kosovo did not materialize."

In the northern part of Kosovo, with majority Serb population, the divisions in reality has been advanced with the expansion of parallel administrative institutions in the political field. In the other areas of Kosovo, the results of attempts for the integration of Serb community in Kosovo remain unclear," report states.

Courts are deemed to be the weakest among public institutions." There are no indications that the further increase of the number of cases can be stopped, let alone the reduction of this number," concludes the report.
