Kosovo Interior Minister Zenun Pajaziti, and Frode Mauring, resident
representative of UNDP in Kosovo signed a transfer agreement of equipment for
fighting fires to the amount of $150,000.
This donation, which is part of the
wider project of Emergency Reaction against Fires in Kosovo, will include
operational equipment that will increase efficiency in preventing fires and
putting out fires like uniforms for firemen, mobile equipment for weather
measurement, GPS and radio equipment.
UNDP Resident Representative, Frode
Mauring said on this occasion: “Kosovo is facing huge challenges in the area of
disaster management and emergency response. These include the remaining
challenges to complete the operational functioning of the crisis management
structures and cooperation with regional emergency structures. I believe that
today’s transfer of the equipment that in part is presented here should be seen
as a small but important symbol of our ongoing and future cooperation”.
Since
1999, UNDP has gained the reputation as a strong and independent partner in the
aim to rebuild Kosovo. The primary aim of UNDP is the reduction of poverty by
helping promotion of economic growth. The organization also tries to build the
strength of Kosovo institutions, to raise the security of citizens and improve
environmental sustainability. All programs stress the role of partnership and
use, wherever it's possible, local expertise to secure solutions suitable for
Kosovo.
