Tuesday, 23 September 2008
ImageGermany has given first EUR 40 million from the 100 million this country pledged for Kosovo at the Donors' Conference in July.

The given amount is only for 2008, of which EUR 23 million are a grant by the German government and another 17 million is soft credit.

"The focus of the German government is the same as that stated by the Kosovo government and agreed in cooperation with the international community when it chose as its priorities energy, infrastructure, education, and law and order," said Ahmet Shala, Kosovo Minister for Economy and Finance.

Leo Kreuz, from the German Federal Ministry for Economy, Cooperation and Development, said that the 40 million won't be on the desk of the Government of Kosovo immediately, but they will be disbursed depending on the project.

“The first project will be the electricity transmission line connecting Tirana and Prishtina, which is a good sign for Kosovo and for its integration in the economic aspect," said Kreuz.

There will be another protocol in 2009 for the remaining EUR 60 million.

Of the total EUR 1.2 billion promised at the Donor's Conference, 613 million are dedicated to new projects and the rest for the payback of international debt.

After the ceremony, another signing was done between the German Bank for Development and ProCredit Bank to support with loans efficient measure of electric energy consumption.
