Russian Ambassador to the European Union, Vladimir Chizov, is pressuring Portugal not to recognize Kosovo at the same time when different sources are reporting that this country could take such a decision very soon.
"I don't see a reason for Portugal to recognize Kosovo
independence now," said Chizov in Brussels. "I think it would be a
mistake, like it was a mistake with other countries that took the same
step," said Chizov.
Different world media have reported that Portugal is close to recognizing Kosovo, and this decision could be revealed very soon.
Portugal is the only EU country, which does not have minority
problems within its territory and has not yet recognized Kosovo
independence.
Meanwhile President of Macedonia Branko Cervenkovski told the
media in Brussels that the decision for his country regarding Kosovo
independence has come. In Macedonia, the government takes the decision.
The parliament in Montenegro will put into discussion Kosovo today with
this country as well expecting the right moment to announce their
decision. Both countries have significant trade relations with Serbia
and Montenegro has close cultural and population ties with Serbia.
Skopje and Podgorica have been threatened with repercussions by
Belgrade if the two governments go ahead with their decisions.
From New York, Kosovo Foreign Minister Skënder Hyseni after
meeting with different world leaders has confirmed again that Malaysia
recognition will come soon. Hyseni said that he could also secure the
promise not to support Serbia's ICJ move from Libya, a country that has
supported Belgrade before.
