Ministry of Energy and Mining of the Republic of Kosovo has contracted a feasibility study to recommend options for Kosovo's largest hydro power plant in Zhur, in southwestern Kosovo.

Elektro-Projekt Zagreb for a six-month period starting this week will update the feasibility study done in 2001 about the hydro central.

"The study will be updated with all the latest information, because we have many changes in the price of equipment and techniques of construction. We will also do an environmental study, which has not been done before and which will complete the tender package for the construction of the hydro central," says Faik Nahi, an official of the Ministry.

The Ministry plans to open the expression of interest phase for the project within this year, which when completed is expected to cost over EUR 300 million. The strategic partners, or the companies that will enter the second round, will be selected based on the old study. However, the final tender will be announced once the new study is completed.

"I believe it won't be completely private capital; it will have state participation because of strategic interests. But nothing has been decided yet," says Nahi.
