Republic of Kosovo Parliament approved on Friday a resolution through
which Kosovo takes the responsibility of accomplishing the Millennium
Development Goals, approved by the UN in 2000.
During the solemn session, Kosovo's institutional leaders said resolution approval helps social and economic development and integration of Kosovo
in international structures.
Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu said that the strategy of development of Kosovo should reflect the main goals of the Millennium Declaration. He mentioned the eradication of extreme poverty as the chief goal of the declaration. Kosovo PM Hashim Thaçi said that the declaration is similar to the vision of the future of Kosovo. Thaçi said that Kosovo is ready to take on the obligations derived from the declaration. "Today's decision by the parliament has been greeted by representatives of UN agencies, according to which, the objectives represent real challenges for Kosovo for the fact that the newest state is poor and with inherited hardships in education, healthcare, etc.," said Thaçi. Reduction of poverty, hunger, diseases, illiteracy and environmental degradation are some of the goals. Some 190 states, including Kosovo, have signed up to the goals.

... I am so glad to hear that steps like this are being taken to address problems in Kosovo, especially poverty and the environment, since Serbia definitely neglected Kosovo in those respects. |
