Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu has congratulated Senator Barack Obama for the historic victory in the United States presidential elections.

Speaking at the Prishtina Airport after his visit to Albania, Sejdiu said that Obama’s election is a special model for American democracy. President Sejdiu thanked once again the United States for the help given to Kosovo adding that there will be no change in the course of the American policy towards Kosovo.

"We value incredibly the role that the US has had, have and will have in Kosovo. For us it is important that all the administrations so far and the ones in the future have been dedicated to helping the freedom of Kosovo people and helping the processes that lay ahead.

Sejdiu expressed his respect for Senator John McCain and for the role that the administration of President Bush has played in Kosovo.

Sejdiu said that the course of American policy towards Kosovo will remain unchanged, despite that the Democrats are returning to the White House after eight years. "Democrats have also been part of the process of support for Kosovo. So there was a constant course of support for Kosovo," said President Sejdiu.

Similar words of support for Kosovo and Albanians were voiced by Wesley Clark, who led the NATO action against Serb forces and has supported Obama's campaign. Clark in an interview for Albania's Top Channel before the elections said that Obama would help the Balkans.

"Whoever is elected president will have European security at the center of attention and you are part of such considerations. Obama president will be very proud of the war waged in 1999 and the last years that brought the independence Kosovo," said Clark.

Kosovo electronic and print media have given extensive coverage to the US elections, often supporting both candidates and conflicted by the fondness for Senator McCain's extensive support during the Kosovo war and the similar role played by his friend and now Democratic rival Joe Bidden and the youth, hope and racial implications represented by President-elect Barack Obama.
