The United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Stuart Jones reconfirmed that the United States is active in the reconfiguration process of the international process in Kosovo as a part of its commitment to assist the strengthening  of the sovereign institutions of the state of Kosovo. 

 

Jones added that "EULEX is to assist the strengthening of the sovereign institutions of the independent state of Kosovo  based on the Ahtisaari Plan and protect minorities in which particularly Serbs should welcome this mission."

In an interview for Kosovo daily Koha Ditore, Jones did not give any details of how this would be achieved; however he added that talks among many parties are being held. Jones said there has not been any delay for the deployment of EULEX, but a slip due to the problems in the planning of the deployment or small problems that are caused by all the mission of this type.

Jones stresses that the American policy towards the Balkans, particularly towards Kosovo, will remain the same,"the US will continue to assist the sovereign institutions of the Republic in every possible way."

Secretary Jones added that EULEX should not be used as a pretext or condition for the economic development of Kosovo. He suggested that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo should  pursue to establish a suitable investment policy that is attractive for foreign investments.
