Special representative of the EU, Pieter Feith has said for Koha Ditore that "the international community cannot impose any plan" on the Kosovo government and that everything will go through negotiations.
Feith said that there will not be any pressure on the official
Prishtina to change its stance, and that Prishtina has herself
expressed the will to keep the dialogue alive. Kosovo government has
said it is willing to discuss with Serbia only as two independent
countries for issues of mutual concern.
According to the sources of different Kosovo media familiar with the negotiations between the countries of the Quint and Kosovo government, Kosovo has the support of the United States but also of another two countries, presumably the UK and Germany. On the other hand, it is France, which leads the EU Presidency and its Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner who are pushing for the neutral EULEX plan and the six-point plan at the United Nations. Another Frenchman, Yves De Kermabon, leads the EULEX mission. The six-point plan was initially been presented by the UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon but then it got strong input in Belgrade only to be condition with "neutral" EULEX on top of it. Kosovo was largely presented with a done deal, says Kosovo government.
The Kosovo opposition and political analysts have voiced strong
opposition to the six-point plan and neutral EULEX. They have strongly
criticized the government for not reacting earlier to the talks between
the UN in New York and Belgrade and now Brussels and Belgrade behind
their back. They criticized the government for not taking initiative
with their own plan to integrate the north.
