Kosovo government in the meeting with four of the five Quint countries yesterday requested changes to the plan presented to them, writes today daily Koha Ditore citing sources in the talks.
The Kosovo government is requesting guarantees from the international
partners about the territorial integrity and that changes are made to
the UN-Belgrade and
EU-Belgrade plan for the deployment of EULEX. Prishtina has also said that it is unacceptable for EULEX to deploy to Kosovo according to Serbia's conditions. Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi could not get any such guarantees at the talks yesterday night and the discussions are expected to continue on today at 15:00 local time. American Ambassador to Prishtina was not present in the talks. Other Quint members are UK, Germany, France and Italy. Koha Ditore also cites its sources at the UN headquarters in New York saying that on Tuesday Belgrade threatened New York and Brussels it would pull out its support for EULEX deployment if any changes were made to the plan in the talks with Prishtina. Belgrade has also given a deadline of 10 days to Brussels and New York to convince Prishtina. Serb President Boris Tadic is also cited saying yesterday in Warsaw that Serbia "will not accept any changes" to the agreement. At least two Quint members have agreed to increase pressure on Kosovo government to accept the plan as is, says the paper.
Gjeraqina Tuhina, Kosovo public television correspondent in Brussels, described the mood in the EU as wanting to give something back to Serbia for the loss of Kosovo. According to her discussion with officials there, the new move stems from the desire among some European circles to placate Serbia for her "loss." Other Kosovo analysts and media have been making the connection between Spain, which has not only recognized Kosovo but also actively campaigned against independence, and Javier Solana, who is leading the EU push.
Key demands by Belgrade are for EULEX to work with UN and Serbian laws,
be neutral on independence and respect the UN Resolution 1244.

... The Kosovars are the ones who hold the power of negotiations . Serbia is obviousely playing the role of the one in control by setting time limits on the Kosovars ! The Kosovars know that they are the ones in control and no matter what the serbs say or do , Kosova will not be split de-facto or otherwise . So , to all you nationalist serbs , please don't hold your breath any longer and I would like to remind you that Kosovo didn't belong to you in the past nor in the present ! What was stolen is finally being returned to the Albanians > Oh yah , one more thing , the E.U. and the world already knows that the serbs are trying to eat with two spoons- one from their mother russia and one from Europe !! |
