Liaison Office of the European Commission in Kosovo in cooperation with the
Government of the Republic of Kosovo completed the last working meeting on the program for
Pre-Ascension Instrument for 2009.
The assistance is worth €106.1 million to be managed by the Liaison Office of
the European Commission in Kosovo, reads a press release issued by this
office.
The objectives of the program for 2009 reflect the key priorities of the European partnership, the priorities of the medium-term spending plan of Kosovo and the findings of the Progress Report for 2008.
Key priorities to finance in 2009 include the strengthening of administrative capacities, rule of law, good governance, regional economic development as well as the improvement of social-economic conditions for all communities.
A few possible projects from IPA 2009 include: creating an addressing system for the whole Kosovo; further training of police officers, fire fighters and custom officers; the rehabilitation of the Prizren Castle including enabling access for disabled persons; support for youth and public health by the creation of multi-use sport objects in Prishtina and Mitrovica; and the support of energy transmission system.
The completed program package will be submitted to Brussels in December 2008. The implementation of IPA projects in Kosovo will begin on the second half of 2009.
Program IPA 2009 was created with the full involvement of benefiting institutions, especially the Republic of Kosovo Agency for Development Coordination and European Integration, respective ministries and especially the Ministry of Economy and Finance. On the field of law, EULEX and EUSR/ICO also participated in obtaining the full breadth of activities.
