A two-member delegation from International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and FIBA Europe visited Kosovo last week during which they gave a positive review of the Kosovo Basketball Association (FBK).
FIBA sports directors Lubomir Kotleba and his FIBA Europe homologue
Kosta Iliev said that Kosovo merits becoming a member of this
international sports association.
The two FIBA officials will report on the development and organization of basketball in Kosovo to the Central Board of FIBA, which will be held on 6-7 December.
"FBK does not need to do anything more to get accepted. If you ask me if Kosovo should be admitted by FIBA, then I say yes. But I don't know when this will happen. The decision for the admission of Kosovo will be taken somewhere else," said Kotleba, indicating his positive report to FIBA on FBK.
Kotleba said, "Sport is part of society, but part of society is also politics. So I can't say that politics does not have anything to do with sport."
Kosta Iliev of FIBA Europe promised to cooperate with the Kosovo Basketball Federation in the future no matter what decision is taken by FIBA in December.
This is the first vision of FIBA officials to Kosovo. They attended a basketball game, had dinner with the board of FBK, visited several stadiums and met with the Minister of Sport.
Kosova Basketball Federation manages nine different leagues including those for women and juniors. The premier Superliga 2008 has 10 teams.
Today FBK will apply for the second time for admission to FIBA. Their application will be reviewed on the meeting of 6-7 December where Kotleba and Iliev will also report.
