Kosovo responds to Ban's plan
President of the Republic of Kosovo Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi have issued a joint statement pertaining to the report of the UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon on the EULEX deployment in Kosovo:
- Government of the Republic of Kosovo is aware that UN General Secretary has issued its report on Kosovo and the UN Security Council will be convening to discuss this report.
- The report includes among others, the so-called "six-point plan"
- On November 18 statement, the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo have emphatically clarified the position concerning the six-point plan and the rejection of the document entirely. Today, we have the same position against this 'six-point plan' as well.
- We are cognizant that the rejection of the six-point plan by Kosovo has been indicated, particularly included on the UN General Secretary's report, as well as our clear Statement that we welcome the deployment of EULEX in the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo and we will work on facilitating this process.
- Our response to the UN General Secretary’s report remains the same. We are determinately convinced that the implementation of the six-point plan cannot be allowed in any possible way that violates the sovereignty and Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo. We appeal to our allies, whose voice has now been clearly heard in defending Kosovo's sovereignty, to reassert that the policies that will be taken to facilitate the deployment of EULEX must be in full coordination, discussion and approval by the sovereign institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.
- We have full confidence in our allies, the United States, the European Union, NATO, as we always have. We are very interested to see the deployment of EULEX in the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo in accordance to the policies we have said in our joint Statement on November 18, as a guarantee for the respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kosovo. We ask the European Union to begin the deployment of EULEX as soon as possible in the operational aspect.
- This is a moment where there is a need for peaceful and determined approach. Any other response other than our statement will only bring satisfaction to those who desire to provoke Kosovo and see Kosovo acting in an undignified way. We will not give them that satisfaction.
- We will continue to work with our allies and partners to achieve our joint aspirations - deployment of EULEX in the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo. We ask for support from the entire political spectrum, civic society in Kosovo as we proceed ahead in fulfilling our duties.

... @Andreas G. I agree with you point regarding the case of 3 German Nationals could unnesseray harm Kosovo-Germany relations. As a Kosovar citizen (and many more like me) I opposed how the case was handeled. Notwithstanding their connection with ICO bombing, they should have been extradited to the German authorities the very day they were apprehended. But I want to stress this, Kosovo police (and Judiciary) is trained and scrutenized by myriad of International organizations, UN, EU and many more. This their product. International community is harming Kosovo chance to become stable, democratic country by imposing plans like the one of UN SG Ban Ki Moon, which is in fact plan of Serbia. This is like infecting a child with polio on purpose, cripling him for life. For short term political gains International Community is abandoning it's principles for solving Kosovo status, and now 9 months after independence which was declared not as Kosovars wanted to but as stipulated by International community according to Ahtisari plan, a supervised independence with many safeguards and and guaranties for numerically insignificant minority of population that is for Kosovo citizens of Serb origin (not more than 5% of population). And now with this Micky Maus 6 point plan, UN is trying to institulize ethnic segregation to be followed by Kosovo partition. Do you see the hypocrysy of this, after lecturing Kosovars from 1999 about democracy and open society and multi-ethnicity now in 2008 UN proposed ethnic segregation. As Kosovar I just want to say - U.N. GO HOME. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. |

... Albanian civil society and media should have a closer look at the last two mentioned points: "...Kosovo acting in an undignified way..., continue to work with our allies and partners .." The detention and humiliating exhibition of three Germans can not go without a reconsidering of EU realtion to Kosovo. I'm afraid many Albanians are not aware of possible consequences. Those among Europe advocating for Kosovo will face many challenges to argue Kosovo-Serbs are safe and should accept living in the Republic of Kosovo without special regulations or even more than taht.. |
