Kosovo should open an embassy in Mid-East

According to the decision made by the President and Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, after the independence, Republic of Kosovo will have ten embassies. We are in the stage of the country being recognized officially by 53 countries, members of the United Nations. Among these countries, only one Arab country has recognized the Republic of Kosovo.

There are speculations of the reason why Arab countries are still inferior and it is not a rare subject in Kosovar newspapers. Before the Kosovo independence was declared, the United States Vice President-elect Joseph Biden, who was the Foreign Committee chairman of the US Senate, considered that the new independent Kosovo will serve as a bridge in US relations with Muslims and it will be a an example of success of the Muslim-dominated democracy.

Kosovar diplomatic activities are subject to change upon inadequate lobbying amongst the Arab world. However , Kosovo officially took part at the Organization of the Islamic Conference this year in Senegal. So far, a few countries, which are members of OIC, have recognized Kosovo. With the exception of the United Emirates, all the other OIC countries that have recognized Kosovo are non-Arab and the recognition did not have much impact in the political foreign affairs of the Arab nations. It is worth mentioning that the Kosovar Civil Society launched initiative to organize conferences with the Arab Civic Society to promote the Kosovar cause. Many prominent politicians and members of the Islamic community participated at the recent conferences held in Prishtina and Amman Jordan.

The Kosovo Foreign Affairs Ministry and its diplomatic services have an obligation to establish a good relationship with the Arab countries because it is imperative for the Republic of Kosovo to become a member of all international organizations, including the UN, where it is pivotal as well.

The Republic of Kosovo needs to establish at least one embassy in the Middle East to further positive relations with the Arab world in the political, economic, and sports. In a supportive aspect. Since the United Emirates recognized Kosovo, it is the right place to start establishing the Kosovo embassy.

Economically, Kosovo is in need to build bilateral ties with the United Emirates, which are an economic tiger in the Arab Peninsula. The expansion of a large number of Kosovar businesses are cooperating with companies in Dubai, creating an important economic hub between the two nations. Certainly, this could create a wide bridge of business opportunities between Europe and Asia to Kosovo.

Fundamentally, the geographical position of Kosovo and the United Emirates in this case is another reason why the Kosovar foreign ministry should consider opening the embassy as a step to enhance our political and economical presence in the Arab world as a way of establishing and improving the relations amongst these countries.

Let's hope Kosovo President takes note of authors excellent idea. A diplomatic representation in the Gulf is beneficial for both gaining further recognitions and establishing economic relations with some of fast growing economies in the world.
