The British Minister of Foreign Affairs David Miliband sent letters to 30 of his counterparts in different countries in the world suggesting them to recognize the independence of Kosovo.

A senior Kosovo Government official, under anonymous conditions, is cited to have told the newspaper Express that new recognitions are expected to arrive at the addresses of the institutions in Prishtina before Kosovars begin celebrations for the one-year anniversary of their country. According to this official, it is believed that the majority of these countries will respond positively; however, he did not give a precise time as to when this could happen.

According to him, around 10 countries could recognize Kosovo before February 17. Germany, France, Turkey and Albania are also helping Kosovo secure wider recognition. So far, 53 countries have recognized Kosovo.
