Serbian crackers attack Kosovo websites

Serbian crackers defaced yesterday the websites of the Kosovo Ministry of Energy and Mining (http://www.ks-gov.net/mem/) and the Kosova Census Office (http://www.ks-gov.net/esk). The group of crackers identifying themselves as “CoNsT” wrote “Srecan Bozic” (Merry Orthodox Christmas), “Pozdrav Sa Vojne Akademije!!!” (Greetings from the Military Academy), “Kosovo Je Srbija!!!!!” (Kosova is Serbia) on the main page of the Ministry of Energy.

“Kosovo Je Srce Srbije” (Kosova is the Heart of Serbia) was written on the webpage of Kosova Census Office where a Serbian flag and the Serbian nationalist symbol 4 “S” were posted on the frontpage. The IT managers deactivated the webpage in the afternoon and it is up and running today. MEM website is still down.

The first indications are that these were low-skill attacks using known security holes in commodity software through the use of readily-available tools. Such cyberspace attackers are known in the hacker community as script kiddies.
