Kosovo capital Prishtina, which already has two streets named for US presidents, has been blanketed by billboards congratulating Barack Obama, the new US president.
Republic of Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu has also sent a telegram to Obama, expressing his sincere felicitations to the new president.
At the same time, Sejdiu, on behalf of Kosovo institutions
and all of its people, thanked the former US President George W. Bush,
for his role and support for Kosovo, during the eight years of his
leadership.
Dear President Obama,
On behalf of the people and institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, I
cordially congratulate You on Your swearing in as the President of the
United States of America. We share this joy with You and the American
people and are convinced that Your victory is a good example of the
American leadership which for a long time was the symbol and in support
of democracy and freedom of the people in the entire world.
The support of the United States of America for Kosovo on its
road for freedom and independence has been everlasting and
irreplaceable. Our people will always be grateful to Your country and
people, we will remember you with great respect and will forever be
grateful.
While our efforts for building a democratic Kosovo based on
highest standards of freedom and democracy continue, the United States
of America will remain our main strategic partner. I am convinced that
under Your leadership, the support of the United States will continue
as before.
We are proud to join You and the entire world in the celebration of today’s historic event.
Congratulating You once again, I wish you luck and success in facing the greatest challenges of our time.
God bless You and the United States of America!
Fatmir Sejdiu

... well i don't represent all of america, but thank you! we are all so psyched for our new leader, you cannot imagine. 8 years of bush was more than enough!! obama holds so much promise, for us and for the world. including the balkans. he has already indicated his support for Kosovo/a and his desire to use creative diplomacy around the world. we are filled with hope and an unlikely optimism. all my best, roberto/frisco |
