Montgomery: Small changes in US foreign policy in Balkans

The former US ambassador in Croatia and Serbia, William Montgomery, expects small changes of the US foreign politics under US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice-president Joseph Biden towards the Balkans.

“I would say that Joseph Biden would have a harsher stance towards Serbia,” declared Montgomery. He added that he does not expect substantial changes.

“Maybe there will be changes in form but not in the essence. For example a special envoy could be appointed for solving the major issues in Kosova and in Bosnia,” declared Montgomery.

The former US ambassador said that the foundations of the politics towards the Balkans were founded by the Clinton administration and implemented by the Bush administration.

A few persons that were a part of the administration and have come back again (Hilary Clinton and Senator Joseph Biden) strongly supported the earlier politics towards the Balkans and this makes me believe that there will be no changes,” declared Montgomery.

Another Balkans envoy with intimate knowledge of Kosovo situation similar to Biden and Hillary Clinton, Ambassador Richard Holbrooke has joined the Obama administration as a special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan.
