More than 4,900 young Kosovars have applied to fill 300 positions in the Kosovo Security Force, the future army of Kosovo. In the conclusion of the first recruitment campaign from the general population, KFOR officials have described it as successful.

NATO’s KFOR operated recruitment offices from January 21 to February 14 in Prishtina, Mitrovica, Gjilan, Peja and Prizren. Likewise, during this time, KFOR also operated mobile recruitment teams to reach every community in Kosovo.

A position attracted more than 15 applicants.

"The results are very satisfactory. According to the large number of applications we received, many young people responded with enthusiasm to this great opportunity. It was a first step in building a multiethnic, professional security force," said KFOR Commander General Emiliano Gay.

On this occasion, Gay called for all members of communities living in Kosovo to apply to KSF, since according to him, it serves for a better future in Kosovo.

According to the information office of KFOR, applicants selected for service in the KSF will begin basic training in the spring of this year.

Some 1,300 KSF recruits have been selected from the disbanded Kosovo Protection Corps. The force will constitute 2500 active and 800 reserve members.
