PM says Kosovo is ready for Independence Day, gives celebration schedule PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 16 February 2009
ImageThe Kosovo Prime Minister gave a decisive statement on Saturday during a Government meeting saying that every attempt by the northern neighbor to destabilize Republic of Kosovo during the festive days of first independence anniversary will fail.

He said that all of the world will watch Kosovo during the upcoming days and they will see a manifestation of progress.

He said this at a special meeting of the Government, while referring to threatening messages coming from Belgrade.

“I want to assure you and all Kosovo citizens that all measures are being taken by adequate national and international mechanisms so that Kosovo will celebrate its Independence Day with dignity and pride,” stated the Prime Minister. This meeting was all about schedules and programs of the country’s most important holiday. So the threats and blackmail coming from Belgrade have failed once and forever.”

After the meeting, the Government spokesperson said that order and security institutions coordinated by the Ministry of Internal affairs took all the responsibilities, made all the preparations and operational plans in order to have a celebration with dignity and without problems.

“Throughout the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo, order and security institutions took responsibility in order for the 17th of February celebrations to go on in the best manner,” said the spokesman. He did not answer the question whether the border between Kosovo and Serbia has been secured.

Celebration schedule

The Government decided to give 150,000 Euros for the February 17th celebrations and published the agenda of state organizations.

The festive day will start with a solemn session of the Republic of Kosovo Assembly and it will finish with firework displays in Prishtina and across Kosovo at 22:00.

The Parliament will gather at 11:00 where the President, the Speaker of the Assembly and the Prime Minister will address the Assembly and the citizens.

From 12:00 to 13:00 students and other citizens will parade in the “Independence walk”. This parade will take place in all urban and rural areas of Kosovo territory.

In the evening, starting from 18:00 the Philharmonic Orchestra of Kosovo will perform a classical music concert and at 21:00 the grand open air concert with popular music will start in Prishtina on Mother Teresa Square, while other concerts will be held in other towns. A folk music concert by folk music ensambles from Kosovo and Albania will take place in Gjakova at 19:00.

The fireworks will start at 22:00 in all towns. This will mark the end of celebrations.

When there is just a little time left for the celebration to begin, the prime minister called for celebration, warmth, solidarity and joy in every Kosovar family. He said that this anniversary should be celebrated with solidarity.

“On Tuesday we celebrate a birthday, the birthday that will open a perspective for our country and its citizens,” said the prime minister.

“So we will have a celebration with dignity and pride, a great celebration, people’s celebration.”

Err... Surely you all realize that KosovO really ISNT independent right??

But i guess fireworks, celebrations & patronizing speeches are appropriate for people who live in the land of fantasy & fairy tales.
