EULEX has begun an investigation of its own ranks over allegations that locals paid considerable sums to get EULEX employment.

EU policing and legal mission in Kosovo, EULEX, has started an international investigation over the suspicion of bribery over the employment of local staff in this mission.

Very reliable Kosovo daily Express sources from this mission say that at least two major cases of corruption have been identified.

At the same time, on this issue, investigations are continuing on the third case due to allegations of employment in a corrupt manner.

"Two persons from the local staff have paid money to get EULEX employment. They have given up to 5,000 euros each," says this official.

One of the spokesperson of EULEX in Prishtina, Kristiina Herodes, classifies this as an internal matter of the European mission.

"This is an internal matter and EULEX does not comment on this," said Herodes for Express.

But the newspaper source says that allegedly there were made other employments against payments of up to 5,000 euros for a job.

Average monthly income in Kosovo is 250 euros and unemployment hovers at around 45%. National EULEX staff - drivers, translators and other administrative positions - get paid 3-6 times that amount.
