The European Boxing League (EuroLeague) has accepted Kosovo Boxing Federation with full membership, giving the Kosovar boxing clubs the first time chance to compete in all European leagues and tournaments, a decision that was made by the EuroLeague boxing officials during a meeting held in Győr, Hungary.
The representative of Kosovo Boxing Federation, Abaz Syla who was
presented at the meeting, confirmed that since Kosovo been accepted to
the Euroleague, the Kosovo representation is expected to compete in the
league starting the month of September when the 2009/10 season begins.
"Kosovo is accepted in the Euroleague and Kosovar Boxing Clubs will have full rights to compete beginning the season 2009/10. Meanwhile, Kosovar boxers can immediately box or sign contracts for any European clubs as well," Syla adds.
Present at this meeting were representatives from Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Slovakia, while the representatives of Slovenia, Croatia, Lithuania and Ukraine through written letters expressed their full support to Kosovo's admission in Euroleague.

National Kosovar federations recognized so far by their respective international governing bodies are International Table Tennis Federation, International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA), International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), International Softball Federation (ISF) and in the process of receiving other recognitions. Kosovo is a member with limited privileges of the International Handball Federation.
"The admission of Kosovo Boxing Federation in the Euroleague is very important and it opens a new window for the the Republic of Kosovo boxing sport in the international arena," officials of the Kosovar Boxing Federation said.
The President of the EuroLeague, Kandó Kálmán has promised to visit Kosovo very soon and observe the upcoming boxing tournaments.
Kosovo is known and in the past and today for its high quality boxing, where many youngsters and coaches from the European continent come to Kosovo for training and actively particiate in many boxing tournaments.
Kosovo has also participated in many European tournaments last year.
