IMF conditions aid to Serbia with recognition of Kosovo

  • PDF
Image
International Monetary Fund has conditioned Serbia to recognize Kosovo independence first before any financial aid will be given, including the requested 2 billion dollars aid,  writes the German daily newspaper, Die Tageszeitung.

"No aid will be given to Serbia by IMF without recognition of Kosovo first" informs the paper quoting a high IMF official regarding the decision.

Serbia is at the brink of total state bankruptcy due to the global economical crises and it is in desperate need for financial aid, says the paper.

Only after the recognition of Kosovo, Serbia can count on the money of International Monetary Fund, reveals the German daily, Die Tageszeitung.

My question is?
While Serbia, -the Kosova’s DESTROYER – (the only responsible factor, for turning back the Kosova’s Economy at the STONE AGE), is getting 4bn; why Kosovars are not starting rescue talks YET?
ON the top of old problems, Kosova has to complete 80Km (50miles) Highway, which is imperative for the development of Kosova, and very important for EU too… ???!!!
NOT MENTIONING THAT THOSE 4bn WILL DISAPPEAR AT THE HUGE MILITARY BUDGET OF THIS MILITARIST STATE NAMED S E R B I A.
EU COME TO YOUR SENSES. OPEN YOUR EYES AND BRAINS, BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.

Helping Serbia has nothing to do with recognition of the Kosova Nation.
The real issue is why Serbia needs money. The Serbian Nation is spending like crazy billions in weapons, and hysterically is doing whatever it takes to create an unprportionally huge army. Russia is standing by, and helping them. An example is the Serbian M-2001 tank. The EU is to ignorant, not to realize that Serbian are turning their nation in a gun powder barrel, ready to explode in a 5th war, with costly consequences for Balkans and EU itself. A good example is this comment on TOPIX about Serbian tank M-2001

It's a cool tank but nothing spacial, a sister tank of the T90, a tank that failed to protect Saddam, in fact the M1A1 lost only 4 in combat and 1 in was abandoned in hostile fire.

So think twice before doing anything stupid ;)

Nick Níkaia, Greece Jun 18, 2008

So what for do you need this new tank?
Are you preparing for the 5th war?

You serbs never learn from your mistakes.
You will never will became civilized.

If you read the German article, you will see that it is an article about Serbia's economic problems and its desire to borrow more international money. So it is not about Kosovo and only in the last paragraph does it say (roughly translated):
Serbia's Kosovo policy could turn out as an additional obstacle for the overcoming of the economic crisis. The government has stated that it will under no circumstances recognize Kosovo. However, there are signs that the US might give Serbia the choice: either another Kosovo-policy - or no money.

So it is quite speculative at the moment. I would consider it an extremely stupid move for the US to make. The IMF is a financial institute. Abusing it so blatantly for polical purposes would alienate a lot of foreign governments. It would also characterize Obama's foreign policy as even more unilateral than Bush's.

Die Tageszeitung could be wrong on this. It simply tastes too good to be true :-)

On the other hand, IMF is not UN. The biggest contributors - read: US - are also the biggest stakeholders, and have most to say politicaly. It might as well be true.

Any comments from IMF directly?

Why would Serbia always depend on Russia and China? Can they learn to help each other worldwide, or must they pick or choose their friends and enemies? No wonder nobody can get along.

I don't understand the Serbian language, but it would be nice to see an article regarding this in Serbian. I highly doubt it.

This is the only website that I have read this "news" on. I searched through other new sites and haven't found where the IMF conditioned recognition of Kosovo to receive any aid. This appears to be another newspaper quoting anonymous (and probably fictitious) sources. There was a lot of this in the year leading up to the UDI which turned out to be false so until I see this on a real website with real sources, I am inclined to believe this is false news article picked up to further propoganda.

Sooner or l8r, serbia will recognize kosovo.. they have no choice,,, serbia should also appologize to all kosovar/albanians for the crimes and torture during the war in 1999... tell the kosovar families where are those missing innocent plp, there are abt 3500 innocent, man women & children still missing in kosovo,,, if they are killed then serbia should tell em where are their remeins so theycan have a proper funeral,, and after all this then the IMF & the rest of the planet should have serious talks or help serbs in any way.... serbs have a ,lot more to do than just hand over couple of war criminals...
