Montenegrins being threatened by Serb minority in Kosovo PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 25 March 2009
ImageThe Association of Montenegrins of Kosovo has reacted against the statements of Kosovar Serb leaders denying the existence of the Montenegrin minority in the Republic of Kosovo.

In a press statement issued for the media, the Montenegrin Association of Kosovo strongly opposes the statements of Rada Trajkovic and Marko Jakshic on the daily Montenegrin "Dan", where they both bluntly deny the existence of the Montenegrin minority in Kosovo.

"The position, which is being continuously displayed by the  Serb local leaders in Kosovo through their political activities, is in the spirit of the special method of war, with impunity, which are making the Serbian nationalists against the nation and state of Montenegro, especially in the last 20 years," the statement says, which was signed by the Chairman of the Association of Montenegrins in Kosovo, Slobodan Vujicic.

"Such despicable presentation by the leaders of the Kosovar Serb minority shows the fall of their morale; their political primitivism, which has caused grievous loses to all people of Kosovo. Now, they are attempting to attack the pride of the Kosovar Montenegrins to destroy and prevent the further realization of our guaranteed rights in the Republic of Kosovo," said the statement.

According to this association, this is one of the main reasons why the Kosovar Administration has to give closer attention to the Montenegrin minority to win equal protection by the constitution and the equal status with other minority communities.

The Montenegrins of Kosovo complain that they are being threatened and blackmailed by the other minority, Serbs. "There is a growing pressure coming from the Serb minority in Kosovo attempting  to assimilate the ethnic Montengrins," the Kosovar Montengrins say.

Meanwhile, the President of the Republic of Kosovo and the Government have pledged to give special attention to the Montenegrin community in Kosovo.

Kosovar Montenegrins have been officially included in the Consultation-Advising Council of Ethnic Communities, which was established under the patronage of the Republic of Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu to better serve the needs of ethnic minorities in Kosovo on December of last year. This decision acknowledges the separate identity of Montenegrin community in Kosovo.

President of the Association of Montenegrins of Kosovo, Slobodan Vujicic, said that President Sejdiu named Manojlo Vukotic representative of the Montenegrin community in Kosovo to the Consultation-Advising Council of Ethnic Communities.

Montenegrins were e separate ethnicity under Tito's Yugoslavia however with the rise of Serb nationalism their separate identity was denied.

Donovan, Illyrian Princess and Robert, I couldn't agree with you more. People, with this I mean Serbs, Albanians, Montenegrins and all others, are not evil, no one is evil. We are all human, we all have our weaknesses and our strengths. I personally don't think that Serbs and Albanians hate each other down there, I mean regular people, not those bloody politicians, and I think that it is the youth, which is why Domi, stop listening to the politicians and listen to Your heart. Politicians never think good for the people, it is always about them and their greed. However, not all politicians are like this.

I'm a Serb, but I'm a Serb from Vojvodina, a multi-ethnic region which some politicians, and nationalistic parties are trying very hard to destroy. We all lived here in peace for centuries: Serbs, Hungarians, Croats, Romanians and all others.... Wars happened, wars that tore some of us apart and these wounds are, unfortunately, deep and infected, and it will take years to heal.

Concerning Montenegro, I don't know why some politicians make all that fuss about it. There always was Montenegro as a state, in medieval times it was known as Zeta. I always looked at them as a separate state, but who cares what I think right? I'm not a wealthy mafia supported politicians, and no offense to the Kosovars, their politicians are no better in all of this. Thaci himself is well known as a big fish in mafia waters in EU, I was told this by others from Europe, but it is beside the point.

In the end, Domi, Serbs are not evil. If they are, then I'm also evil, my friends are evil, among them is also one Albanian, who considers himself to be Serb. I don't hate You, and I expect the same from You. Those words that You wrote in Your comment are exactly the words that caused all of those crimes and misfortunes to happen in this region.

Cheers

"I couldnt agree with you more Donovan. That mindset is exactly what we need in this world. This world should be everybodys world and everybody should be treated equally. " (illyrian princess)

i couldn't agree more with the both of you, illyrian princess and donovan53. we are stonger as a democracy when we work together in as large a coalition as possible, and as inclusive as is possible. this is somethng that many of us have been pushing for a great many years, and something that our obama was amazingly successful in, especially for the election.

anyway i have written again and again: the "serbs" (or any other group for that matter) are not the enemy. they are human, with strengths and weaknesses, as individuals, like any others. of course i oppose the lingering hyper-nationalism, but in large part i blame the demagogic leaders that push all of that "nice" agenda.

and the great irony: many of those extreme nationalist politicians don't even believe their own rhetoric. has anyone ever read some of the inside reminisces of certain Hague indictees, for example nassir oric. according to him (and i have no reason to doubt this) they all more or less got along, very pragmatic-like, even slobo! eating and playing games together. i mean really, some of the worst architects of "ethnic cleansing" hanging out with the "enemy," i mean how offensive is that? they don't even buy their own lies and hate, when push comes to shove.

and in my beloved bosnia, it is just amazing how the nationalist politicians of each major ethnicity/religion work so well together, as they plot on dividing their country into 4 chunks, thank you very much, finishing the work that karadzic and his very willing executioners began. no joke! they're so buddy-buddy, as they segregate the young people of bosnia and encourage extremist attitudes and intolerance.

i stongy feel that those of us with a pro-democratic, multi-cultural, pro-human rights POV must speak up and continue to do so, and not fall into the ugly nationalist trap. it is a huge battle and the other side has a lot of backing. that is why i continue to post on sites like b92, despite all of the obvious pitfalls. our advesaries have a right to free speech but not to OWN the airwaves, or cyberwaves.

thank you, chvala, and filamenderet

These are the type of comments and the methods of thinking that perpetuate the situation on the ground in Kosovo. Education, compassion, acceptance, and forgiveness are the keys to Kosovo's future. I agree that there ARE those individuals that need to be subject to justice, and justice will come to them. Justice moves slowly, but justice always prevails. BUT generalized statements about particular groups of people are what brought Kosovo into the current situation.

Be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Reach out to your neighbors. Help them to feel welcome in their country, because it IS their country too. Forget about the troublemakers. Their time is limited and their mission is failing. Help to end their influence over those that wish to be a part of Kosovo.

Serbs make me mad! Why none of our politicians say STOP to them. While all want justice for them! Serbs do not even want justice, why everyone else must respect the???

Why are Serbs first priority, first priority was Albanere under Serbian control? Albanians have power to stop the bandits!

DO it so all the others live in peace, make a free Kosova!
